In Mezrab you can enjoy a nice selection of beers and wines accompanied by stand up comedy or storytelling. Every Wednesday they open their doors for the brave storytellers or comedians in an open mic night, so you can join in or just watch. Fridays the pros take over the stage. In my opinion this is the best night to listen to stories as they are always very fun and well prepared.
It is located in the middle of Eastern Docklands, just 10min away from the central station by bike. The cycle from Central Station to Mezrab is quite scenic especially during the sunset, you just need to follow the main canal all the way to the east, it’s just one long straight road, so it’s pretty easy.
Mezrab is one of these rare places in Amsterdam that has a warm family feeling. It is run by a lovely expat family, they always give a little speech at the start of the night and make you feel welcome. The whole place is covered with colourful rugs and candles that creates that cosy living room feeling. It is mostly run by volunteers so the prices of drinks are pretty low and the staff is always really fun. You can tell they are there because they want to be.
Entrance costs from 5-8 euros, you can buy tickets in advance or at the door.
Sometimes it gets very crowded so better to come early.
Storytelling starts at 8 and ends at midnight.
