Terrace in the summer

About

Hannekes Boom is a lovely bar/cafe located on the main riverside of Amsterdam. Decorated with colourful flags, wooden structures, fairy lights and plants it sets an easy going and festive feeling. It is especially popular during summer and spring times as it has a big terrace right by the waterfront so you can enjoy the view of the passing by boats. The main river of Amsterdam opens up with all its beauty at this location. If you come from a boat, Hannekes Boom is a perfect place for a quick stop to get some drinks or use their restroom.

They serve a great selection of bar foods, you can find more regular snacks like nachos and also the dutch specialty snacks like bitterballen. As for the main dishes, their specialty are burgers, ravioli and risotto. You can find these dishes in meat or vegetarian options.

If you’re not hungry, it’s worth coming here just for the art. The big picnic tables are painted with the most extraordinary pictures by the local artists. You can see stories and characters gazing at you from your table.

Visiting tips

  • This place is the nicest during warm summer or spring days, but it gets very busy, so we would advise to reserve a table.
  • Hannekes Boom is also open in winter, but then you can only sit inside. They have a cosy fireplace to warm you up!
